Default retention posture

  • Form submissions: default workspace retention setting is 365 days.
  • Document submissions, signed PDFs, and signing audit events: default workspace retention setting is 2555 days.
  • File uploads: default workspace retention setting is 365 days.
  • Analytics records: default workspace retention setting is 730 days.

Workspace controls

  • Workspace owners can configure retention settings through the compliance API.
  • Retention execution defaults to dry-run and requires explicit auto-delete enablement before destructive deletion is applied.
  • Legal holds on form recipients or document submissions prevent retention deletion for those records.

Deletion limits

Deletion may be delayed or limited by legal holds, security investigations, billing records, backups, abuse prevention, dispute evidence, or legal obligations. Customers are responsible for selecting retention periods appropriate for their own laws, contracts, and policies.
